Another Place The Machrie

The Machrie on the Isle of Islay was founded in 1891 when Scottish professional Willie Campbell was invited to design a course overlooking Laggan Bay. The course was later extensively redesigned by former Ryder Cup player DJ Russell between 2013 and 2018, bringing the historic layout up to modern championship standards.

Bordering the breathtaking Laggan Bay, the Machrie Golf Course measures 7,000 yards from the black tees, with multiple other tee boxes available to offer an enjoyable game for golfers of all skill levels. While the sea breeze presents a unique challenge, the thick rough, contoured greens, and strategically placed bunkers make this course a true test for all players.

One of its most famous early events took place in 1901 when Harry Vardon, J.H. Taylor and James Braid competed for a £100 prize, which was one of the richest competitions in golf at the time. The course is currently ranked 29th in the country by Top 100 Courses.
