Brora Golf Club

Brora Golf Club was founded in 1891 and originally opened as a nine-hole course before being extended to eighteen holes in 1900. In 1923 the club invited five-time Open Champion James Braid to redesign the layout, with Braid visiting the following year and producing plans for the course. His out and back routing was largely adopted and remains mostly unchanged today.

The par 70 course measures 6,211 yards and offers a traditional Highland links experience beside Kintradwell Bay. The outward nine follows the coastline while the inward holes run beside neighbouring croft land, with burns, gorse, out of bounds and changing coastal winds all adding to the challenge. One of Brora’s most unusual features is that livestock still graze parts of the course.

Brora has built its reputation more through the quality and character of the course than through hosting major professional championships. It currently ranks 23rd in Scotland by Top 100 Courses.
