Cork Golf Club

Cork Golf Club was founded in 1888 and moved between several early locations before settling at Little Island in 1897. David Brown extended it to nine holes in 1901 and then to eighteen by 1911. Alister MacKenzie carried out the most important redesign in 1925, creating three new holes, new greens and distinctive bunkering. Martin Hawtree later led another major restoration programme, completed in 2013, which rebuilt tees and restored much of MacKenzie’s original character.

The course measures around 6,730 yards from the back tees and has an unusual links-like character despite being an inland harbour course. It possess firm playing surfaces, while old quarry walls, strategically positioned bunkers and large undulating greens create much of the challenge. Several holes also run beside Cork Harbour, giving the layout a distinctive mixture of heathland, parkland and links-style golf.

Cork is currently ranked 24th in Ireland by Top 100 Courses and has a strong history of hosting many important amateur and professional events, including the 1932 Irish Open, Irish Professional Championships and Irish Close Championships.
