County Louth Golf Club

County Louth Golf Club was founded in 1892 when a nine-hole course was established by Thomas Gilroy and George Henry Pentland. The layout developed considerably over the following decades before renowned architect Tom Simpson, assisted by Molly Gourlay, carried out a major redesign in 1938. In 2003, Tom Mackenzie made updates to the layout including adding the championship tees that are used today.

The par 72 course stretches to 7,031 yards from the back tees and combines rolling dunes, firm fairways and strategically positioned bunkers. Wayward shots are punished by deep pot bunkers with raised lips, and thick, punishing rough. The course boasts stunning sea views of the Irish Sea and Mountains of Mourne, making the course a truly breathtaking experience.

County Louth is currently ranked 8th in Ireland and Northern Ireland by Top 100 Courses and has hosted the Irish Open twice, in 2004 and 2009, with Shane lowery famously winning the 2009 competition as an amateur.
