Muirfield Golf Club (Open Championship Venue)

The first record of golf played at Muirfield dates back to 1891 where Old Tom Morris designed a 16-hole course. It was extended to eighteen holes for the 1892 Open Championship before Harry Colt carried out a major redesign in 1923 using an additional 50 acres of land to create 14 new holes.

Muirfield is famous for its unusual routing, with two loops of 9 holes playing in opposite directions, meaning golfers constantly face changing wind directions. Firm fairways, deep bunkers, thick rough and well-protected greens make accuracy and course management essential throughout the round.

Muirfield is currently ranked 2nd in Scotland and 10th in the world by Top 100 Golf Courses. It has hosted The Open Championship sixteen times as well as eleven Amateur Championships, the Ryder Cup, AIG Women's Open and Curtis Cup.
