Panmure Golf Club was established in 1845 by seventeen Scottish residents who hired Allan Robertson and Alexander Pirie to create an original nine-hole course. It was then extended to 18 holes by 1880. Due to congestion at the club purchased new land in 1888 and moved to the new site in 1899.The course has seen many modifications since with James Braid creating significant altercations in 1922. Legendary American golfer Ben Hogan practiced at Panmure for two weeks before winning the 1953 Open Championship. While practicing he suggested adding a bunker to the 6th hole which was built and still named after him to this day.
The par 70 course measures 6,551 yards from the back tees and provides an unusual mixture of traditional links and heathland characteristics. Heather, dunes, deep bunkers and undulating greens create a difficult but enjoyable challenge.
Panmure is currently ranked 35th in Scotland by Top 100 Golf Courses and has hosted numerous major amateur events. These include the Scottish Amateur Stroke Play Championship, British Senior Amateur Championship and has also regularly been used for Open Championship qualifying.
