Portmarnock Golf Club

Portmarnock Golf Club was founded in 1894 after William Chalmers Pickeman and George Ross identified the peninsula as an ideal location for golf. Mungo Park supervised the original nine-hole design, which officially opened in December 1894, before the course was extended to eighteen holes during the following two years. Fred Hawtree designed an additional nine holes which opened in 1972, while Martin Hawtree made further changes to the Championship Course in 2002.

The club features 27 stunning holes, with the 18-hole championship course measuring just under 7,500 yards from the back tees. As a pure natural links course, its proximity to the sea can create significant challenges for skilled golfers. Its routing places holes in numerous different directions, meaning golfers rarely face the same wind and Tiger Woods stated, “It is one of the most enjoyable links courses I have had the opportunity to play.”

Portmarnock is currently ranked 3rd in Ireland by Irish Golfer and is widely recognised as one of the country's finest championship links. It has hosted the Irish Open nineteen times, the 1960 Canada Cup and the 1991 Walker Cup.
