Portsalon Golf Club

Portsalon Golf Club was founded in 1891 and is one of the oldest clubs in Ireland, a founding member of the Golf Union of Ireland which is the oldest golfing union in the world. The original course was laid out by Charles Thompson  before major changes were made by Pat Ruddy around the turn of the 21st century, including the creation of nine new holes. More recent improvements have been carried out with input from former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley.

Stretching over 7000 yards from the tips, the par 71 course features natural dunes, elevated tees, firm-running fairways and strong winds that create a challenging round. With several holes follow the coastline closely,  the course also features unusual shared greens which add to its traditional links character

The course has not hosted many professional competitions however it has been host to regional competitions in the past. Despite this the course is highly recognised in the country as it is currently ranked 20th in Ireland.
