Prestwick Golf Club was founded in 1851 with Old Tom Morris being recruited from St Andrews to design the original twelve-hole course. The layout was later extended to eighteen holes in 1882. Prestwick also hosted the very first Open Championship in 1860 with eight professional golfers competing on the 12 hole course.
The course presents an enjoyable challenge for all golfers with fast and firm greens, blind holes, and rugged dunes. This natural links course measuring 6908 yards from the tips, places more importance on creativity and course knowledge than pure distance, with several holes using natural features in ways rarely seen on modern courses.
Prestwick have held the open 24 times with 1925 being the most recent, the course is currently ranked 13th in Scotland and 93rd in the world by Top 100 Courses.
