Royal Aberdeen Golf Club

Royal Aberdeen was founded in 1780 making it the sixth-oldest golf club in the world. Golf was originally played on the Queen's Links before moving to Balgownie in 1888. Brothers Archie and Robert Simpson designed the course before five-time Open Champion James Braid later lengthened and strengthened the layout. Royal status was granted by King Edward VII in 1903.

The Balgownie Course is a traditional out-and-back links with an opening nine that runs through dramatic natural dunes close to the North Sea. Narrow rolling fairways, thick rough and strong coastal winds demand accurate driving, while the smaller greens place considerable importance on approach play.

The Balgownie Course at Aberdeen is ranked 12th in the country and 88th in the world on top 100 courses. Its been host to major amateur and professional tournaments, including the 2005 Senior Open Championship, the 2011 Walker Cup and the 2014 Scottish Open.
