Back to North East & Highlands
Founded in 1877, Royal Dornoch Golf Club was originally a 9-hole course until the renowned Old Tom Morris was called upon to extend the layout in 1886. Club secretary John Sutherland later made several important alterations, while further changes during the 20th century helped create the Championship Course played today. King Edward VII granted the club its royal title in 1906
Measuring 6,799 yards with a par of 70, Royal Dornoch is known for its raised greens, natural dunes and firm running fairways overlooking the Dornoch Firth. Deep bunkers and tightly mown run-off areas make approach shots particularly demanding, while the exposed Highland location means changing winds can dramatically affect how the course plays.
Despite not hosting too many professional prestigious competitions the Royal Dornoch Golf Club is widely recognised as one of the best courses in the UK ranking 15th in the world by top 100 courses. Royal Dornoch Golf Club has been the chosen venue for the 2028 Curtis Cup.
