First established in 1869 as a 9 hole course it shared the links land with a horse race track with the 1st and 18th hole named “course” and “stand” in honour of the racing history. The course was later extended to an 18 hole course in 1871 with the horse racing discontinued on the property five years after, leaving the famous links land golf only.
Measuring at 7350 yards from the tips the Royal Liverpool Golf Club is widely recognised as a beautiful links golf course, but constant winds and deep summer rough creates a substantial challenge for all golfers. As one of the oldest English seaside clubs, Royal Liverpool is central to the history and development of golf in Great Britain
Regularly finishing in the top 20 courses in the country, Royal Liverpool golf club has hosted the Open championship 13 times with Tiger Woods winning in 2006 and Rory McIlroy in 2014.
