Royal Portrush Golf Club was founded in 1888 as the County Club, initially using a nine-hole course before expanding to eighteen holes the following year. Old Tom Morris advised on the early layout before Harry Colt was commissioned to design a completely new championship course during the late 1920s and another 18 hole course, with the Dunluce Links officially opening in 1933 and the Valley course in 1934. Martin Ebert made significant upgrades to the design of the Dunluce Course introducing two brand-new holes in 2017.
The Dunluce Links runs through rolling coastal dunes above the Atlantic and provides a demanding championship test. Deep bunkers, heavily contoured greens and strong coastal winds are accompanied by dramatic views towards the Giant’s Causeway and surrounding coastline. The course measures 7317 yards from the tips but has a selection of tee boxes for all golfers.
The course is currently ranked 9th in the world by Top 100 Courses and has previously hosted the The Open Championship three times, in 1951, 2019 and 2025, with Max Faulkner, Shane Lowry and Scottie Scheffler becoming champions.
