Royal Troon Golf Club (Open Championship Venue)

Royal Troon Golf Club was founded in 1878, initially beginning with only a small number of holes on rough coastal land. The course expanded to twelve holes by 1883 before reaching eighteen a few years later. James Braid made significant renovations to the course in 1922 lengthening the layout and increasing the bunkering. On the courses 100th anniversary it received its Royal title by Queen Elizabeth II.

The Old Course provides a demanding traditional links challenge with the outward nine generally running alongside the Firth of Clyde before turning back towards the clubhouse. Deep bunkers, thick gorse, high sand dunes and strong coastal winds create constant danger, while the course also possess one of the longest holes in championship golf with a 600 yard Par 5.

Royal Troon first hosted The Open Championship in 1923 and has now staged the tournament ten times, most recently in 2024. The course has also been venue for the AIG Women's Open and Amateur Championship. The course is currently ranked 15th in the country by Top 100 Courses.
