Strandhill Golf Club

Strandhill Golf Club was founded in 1931 and originally opened as a nine-hole course beside the Atlantic coast in County Sligo. John McAlister redesigned the nine-hole layout in 1939, with the new course opening the following year. The club eventually expanded to eighteen holes in 1973, while further improvements have continued in more recent years to strengthen the course.

The par 70 course measures around 6,200 yards and sits between the Atlantic Ocean and 1000ft high Knocknarea Mountain. Undulating fairways, natural dunes, blind shots and strong coastal winds provide the main challenge, placing more importance on accuracy and creativity compared to distance.

Strandhill has built a strong reputation as one of the leading links courses in the west of Ireland and was ranked 31st in Ireland by Irish Golfer in 2026.
