Western Gailes Golf Club

The course was established in 1897 by the club's first Keeper of the Green, Fred Morris who extended the layout to 18 holes shortly after. While the core layout remains largely authentic to its origins, golf architect Fred Hawtree made major modifications in the mid-1970s.

The course occupies a narrow strip of natural linksland between the railway and the Firth of Clyde. The routing is an anti-clockwise loop, with a long stretch of holes playing close to the sea. Firm fairways, large dunes, deep bunkers and strong winds from the coast provide an enjoyable challenge for all level of golfers.

Western Gailes is currently ranked 18th in Scotland by Top 100 Golf Courses and 99th in the world by Golf Digest. The course has hosted the The Open Championship Final Qualifying, PGA Championship and Curtis Cup.
